COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE POLITICAL SYSTEM OF NORTH MACEDONIA AND KOSOVO

North Macedonia and Kosovo were part of the former Yugoslavia. The political system of North Macedonia (hereinafter RNM) and Kosovo, have evolved from similar historical and geopolitical contexts. Both countries share a complex history of ethnic diversity and a transition from post-socialist governance to democratic governance.
RNM and Kosovo built political systems that reflect their historical backgrounds, ethnic diversity and aspirations for integration into the European Union.
RNM and Kosovo, two neighbouring countries, are facing different challenges in building democratic institutions, good governance, the rule of law, reforming state administration and other efforts toward European integration.
According to the constitutional provision, RNM and Kosovo are independent and democratic states, which means that governance is based on the principles of democracy, political pluralism and ethnic representation.
RMV and Kosovo are Parliamentary Republics. From a theoretical – normative aspects, both states respects the principles implied by this form of state organization, starting from: separation of state powers into executive, legislative and judicial; independence of state powers; interaction between executive and legislative power, etc.
Although the RNM and Kosovo have the same type of political system, there are evident differences in the structure of governance, including the method of electing the President of the Country, the representation of non – majority communities within central-level state institutions, the structure of the Government, the structure of the Parliament, the method of electing deputies, etc.
This paper has theoretical approach. This study aims to analyse the political systems of NRM and Kosovo.
The study highlights similarities and differences in the governance structure of two neighbouring countries with similar political system.
For the needs of this research, we use: historical methods, descriptive- comparative methods, analysis of constitutional and legal provisions and scientific doctrines.
The study offers suggestions for improving the democracy and better governance.
