MODELING AS A METHOD OF TEACHING GEOMETRY IN PRIMARY GRADES
Keywords:
mathematics, geometry, model, modelingAbstract
In the initial stage of primary education, mathematics education is focused on the study of basic knowledge and skills that build on the initial mathematical literacy, forming the current basic knowledge (MES, 2015).
Mathematics develops together the qualities of the child. Therefore, as a subject, its role is important for the implementation of the objectives of primary education (MES, 2017).
The purpose of this article is to explore the applicability and feasibility of modeling as a method of teaching geometry in elementary school. The development emphasizes the usefulness and valuable practical significance of its use.
"The reproduction of elements (mentally or objectively represented) by various processes, phenomena and objects is called a model. The models differ in form, content, material, purpose - depending on their purpose and depending on what they should reflect "(Venkova, 2021). Learning models support the activities of students and occupy a special place in learning because they are a necessary factor for learning the material.
The main purpose of modeling in geometry is to create a model that allows to calculate approximately the most precisely defined property or regularity of the modeled object.
Mathematics creates prerequisites for the development of logical and spatial thinking; It forms modeling skills with numerical expressions of situations; Encourages the ability to describe real-world situations with a mathematical model; Mathematics develops skills for self-assessment and self-control; It helps to upgrade the cognitive ability of students in learning - independence, activity, observation, attention; Develops mental activity - speed, critical thinking, self-criticism, flexibility, consistency, concentration of thinking, memory stability (Stoimenova, 2012).
In training and in the learning process, modeling gives activity, diligence, form, completeness. It influences and influences the mental activity and the child's psyche through cognitive models; use of communication models and way of communication; action modeling (simulation modeling) - description of the studied problem; use by the teacher as a daily practice in the learning process - modeling the explanation, evidence, argumentation, simulation.
All these qualities, described above, characterize the whole essence of man. In the child, however, these essential characteristics are in the initial stages, which makes them vulnerable, controllable and manipulable. Since modeling in mathematics, as a subject in primary education, develops so many qualities in total, it must undoubtedly be implemented in the life of the child from an early age.
