Abstract

Formative assessment includes diagnosis of prior knowledge, setting and following goals and evaluating the achieved results. It enables the students to gain qualitative feedback on improving their knowledge. Because of that the teacher should always work on student’s self confidence, helping and motivating them to achieve success. It is in this context that we plead for the development of monitoring systems that enable teachers to determine the abilities of individual students and follow their progress in a number of subjects. Such systems may provide teachers with detailed information about every individual student. One of the most productive ways of supporting the development and the achievement of students is the application of acquired knowledge in practice. The purpose of the research was to gain knowledge about the extent to which primary school teachers require students to apply the acquired knowledge in practice. During the realization of this research a questionnaire for the teachers is used as a research instrument. There were selected 210 teachers from different elementary schools. These informations may give us an overview about the teaching quality in the elementary schools. This paper recomends that the teacher should establish assessment criteria and other procedures that are directly related with the learning process. The gained results are generally in favor of the conclusion that this process helps students to be more independent in the way they learn and in the way how they take responsibilities
