Abstract

The article examines the innovative approach to learning through games and shares the experience
of conducting a lesson unit with the application of game-based learning in the teaching of informatics,
general education in class VIII.
Nowadays, much of the content to be learned by students is not directly motivating for them. That's why
more and more approaches are being sought to attract interest to the subject being studied.
Game-based learning is a new approach that aims to increase the motivation of learners by using fun and
interactive methods and games. There are many educational games that can easily be inserted and used in the
learning process. The approach is increasingly preferred because of the atmosphere it creates in the learning
process. Students are highly motivated to participate in the lesson without missing a single step towards the
end goal. The competitive nature of each game encourages speed, analytical thinking and strategy.
Game-based learning can be applied at any stage and to any subject in the Bulgarian education system: from
the first group in kindergarten to the second high school stage. We can divide games according to the
resources involved during their execution into desktop (on-board) and computer games, with computer games
being divided into online and offline.
The game-based learning was realized through the game "Logical Monsters" with the students of VIII b
grade, second group of PPMG "Nancho Popovich", town of Shumen. There were 12 students, 6 of them girls,
aged 14-15. The script of the game was modified by the author, based on the conceptual projects for the game
presented by Pavlova (Pavlova&Marchev, 2021). negation "no") and expressions in the subject of informatics
at the end of the VIII grade.
In the results of the conducted game-based training, it was concluded that its implementation is beneficial to
the students, contributing to learning the learning material in a fun and conducive environment, as well as
increasing the interest and active participation of the students.
