STRONG LEADERSHIP AS A METHOD FOR PROFESSIONALIZATION OF MANAGEMENT IN HEALTH SYSTEMS

Medicine as a science is thousands of years old, while management as a recognized science is no more than a hundred years old.Menagement as a science applied in healthcare is at very beggining in less developed countries, including our country.The poor results point to the need for professionalization of management in healthcare.The provision of quality healthcare depends on the efficient and effective use of resources.Health organizations in our country are faced with several obstacles when it comes to professionalization and improvement of the management in healthcare.Insufficient training of existing leaders is one of those obstacles, but above all the basic disadvantage is the general non-recognition of the profession manager in a healthcare system and organization and the largely unwritten rule that ussualy is practice in our heath care institutions in the country, is that medical doctor need be manager and leader.With professionalisation of the management in healthcare organizations, better efficiency is ensured and also the best possible, optimal use of such limited and modest resources is achieved.The fact is that with the efficient and effective use of resources trough the improvement of management by increasing the capacity and knowledge of the leaders themselves, it is possible to improve the very functionality of the organizations and institutions operating in the health sector.
The focus of this paper will be trough an appropriate presentation and analysis of a world- recognized framework that refers to leadership in the health systems to conduct research, to see and present the current situation, also to define, specify and apply in our country healthcare systems the basic essential competencies that arise from it, a framework or set of competencies that would reach the exsisting and improve the future leaders in the health sector, thereby professionalizing the management of health organizations and systems at all levels, all with the aim of improving the organization itself, its operation, interpersonal relations, resources, internal and external communication and the business positioning of the system itself in the environment in which it operates and all this with the ultimate goal of improving the services provided to the most affected in the healthcare system, the patients and the care of the population in general.
