SOME PRINCIPLES FOR PROTECTING HUMAN RIGHTS IN SOCIAL MEDIA

The transnationalization of modern mass communication media has created an opportunity for creative people to bypass the “classical highways” and through newly created “highways” to find a way to a potential audience, regardless of where it is located. Social media in the modern world is the fastest growing phenomenon and represents a complete revolution in the process of distributing messages. The intensity increases if institutional channels do not provide a sufficient amount of objective information. The prospects and potential of social networks in the era of technical and technological achievements show that they are an integral part of human everyday life. Society is interested in free communication processes that allow people to express themselves, their desires, interests and needs. On the other hand, modern technologies are not neutral in terms of values and challenges aimed at the misuse of information about a person, loss of identity and the threat of disintegration of society. There are many negative consequences associated with invasion of privacy, disinformation and the right to anonymity of an individual. There is no doubt that the right to privacy can be attacked on social networks. The authors examine some principles for the protection of human rights on social networks.
The relationship between privacy and user profiles on a social network is multifaceted, with in some cases users wanting the information they publish about themselves to be accessible only to a narrow circle of people, and in other situations they are ready to reveal their secrets to strangers and anonymous strangers. All this information, if misused, can cause serious consequences, ranging from identity theft to harassment and persecution, from humiliation to various types of discrimination or even blackmail.
