TIME AND RESOURCES IN EVALUATION: WHERE IS THE BALANCE?

Assessment through tests is widely used in the modern education system, with its main goal being to ensure objectivity and standardization in measuring students’ knowledge and skills. Historically, tests were developed as a means of eliminating subjective factors in assessment, but their effectiveness has often been questioned. Although they offer the opportunity for a quick and comparative assessment of results, they do not always take into account the individual characteristics and needs of learners.
The study examines the main challenges associated with the use of tests as an assessment tool, including the time required for their compilation, processing and analysis. The data show that teachers have limited resources for detailed analysis of results, which can lead to a superficial assessment of knowledge.
One of the main problems identified in the study is the lack of personalization in tests. A large number of teachers use ready-made test materials without adapting them to the specific needs of students. This creates the prerequisites for inaccuracies in assessment, since standardized tests do not always reflect the real level of understanding of the educational material. In addition, test assessment can lead to increased levels of stress in students, especially when the results have a significant impact on their academic development.
Another key aspect of the study is the need to improve the methodology of test assessment. Although many teachers are aware of the importance of the validity and reliability of tests, a small number of them have sufficient preparation for detailed analysis of the results. The lack of training and access to specialized tools often leads to the use of superficial assessment methods that do not take into account the depth of knowledge.
Technologies offer the opportunity to optimize test assessment through automated systems for analysis and processing of results. The use of digital platforms can reduce the time for administering and analyzing tests, while providing more detailed feedback on individual student achievements. However, the successful implementation of such technologies requires additional qualification of teachers and adaptation of existing educational practices.
This study highlights the need for an integrated approach to assessment that combines the objectivity of tests with personalized teaching methods. In the long term, improving test assessment and implementing innovative practices can contribute to a more equitable and effective educational process. This will not only allow for more accurate measurement of knowledge, but will also encourage the development of critical thinking and analytical skills in students.
