Abstract

Disk diseases and lower back pain (LBP) are among the most common musculoskeletal disorders. According to data from 2019, LBP affected approximately 577 million people worldwide, making it one of the leading causes of disability, especially in developing countries and regions with high rates of population aging, such as Europe and North America. In 2019, musculoskeletal disorders, including herniated discs, accounted for over 150 million years of healthy life lost (measured in DALYs), with the majority of cases (approximately 67%) due to lower back pain. These conditions lead to significant disability and a deterioration in quality of life. This data underscores the global seriousness of disc diseases and highlights the need for effective therapeutic methods, such as kinesitherapy, which can help control and alleviate symptoms while improving functionality and patients' quality of life. The Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 (GBD) by the World Health Organization. Other sources for similar data include annual reports from organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and specialized databases like the Global Health Data Exchange.Studies have found that multidisciplinary interventions for spinal treatment lead to a 34% reduction in healthcare costs associated with back pain. Patient BMI and gender also have an impact, with these factors contributing to further cost reduction after treatment. These findings are relevant for patients, healthcare institutions, insurers, and clinicians seeking more effective and cost efficient approaches in treatment (Soer et al., 2020).
The positive effects of kinesitherapy in patients with chronic disc herniation are a key factor in maintaining a good quality of life, providing a structured and safe approach to restoring mobility, relieving pain, and increasing muscle stability. The kinesitherapy also influences posture correction, coordination, and psychological emotional tone. This treatment reduces disability rates for this condition and healthcare costs. The application of yoga exercises focused on stretching and strengthening shows potential as an effective means for alleviating neuropathic pain associated with lumbar disc herniation.
The purpose of this article is to demonstrate the benefits of kinesitherapy for patients with herniated discs in the chronic stage.
