COOPERATION ON EXTRADITION BETWEEN THE REPUBLIC OF KOSOVO AND THE REPUBLIC OF NORTH MACEDONIA: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES

This paper will focus on an analysis of international legal cooperation in the criminal field, more precisely on extradition issues between the two neighboring states Kosovo and North Macedonia. This issue has not been sufficiently elaborated by the academic community due to the sensitivity of the issue and has always been considered a more political than legal issue. The purpose of the paper is to address the real reasons for the stagnation of cooperation, the challenges and opportunities for overcoming them in order to put into operation adequate rules for cooperation in the field of extradition.
Historical, descriptive, comparative methods and analysis of academic opinion through interviews will be used. First, international conventions will be described, then bilateral agreements and cooperation between relevant institutions involved in extradition issues. Then, several concrete cases will be analyzed, which have raised public interest in the two countries in question.
This paper, in addition to producing the intended results, also aims to provide other research by other researchers, which will be related to obstacles to legal cooperation between countries.
Finally, we will draw some conclusions and provide some suggestions that may be useful for readers, the academic and political community.
