MULTICULTURALISM AND INTERCULTURALISM – WHAT NEXT
Keywords:
culture, multiculturalism, interculturalism, educationAbstract
When you read the statement by Angela Merkel, former Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, that multiculturalism in Germany is a fraud, or rather a "lifelong lie", then you have to ask yourself what globalization and the persistent promotion of "human rights" as the "new Bible" of liberal democracy in Western countries means for our country.
For this reason, we are obliged to shed light on concepts such as multiculturalism and interculturalism, to point out their virtues but also the shortcomings that have emerged in their development, and which have had a great impact on our education.
Namely, multiculturalism indicates the existence of two or more cultures in the same space and focuses on describing their differences, while interculturalism involves comparing the cultures, opinions, and ideas of two or more cultures, as well as their mutual influence.
