PROFESSORS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ALBANIAN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE IN SKOPJE AND THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO THE ALBANIAN LANGUAGE

The Department of Albanian Language and Literature in Skopje has been a vital center for preserving and promoting the Albanian language in North Macedonia and beyond. Since its foundation in 1951, the department has nurtured numerous scholars and produced a substantial body of linguistic and literary work. Key professors, including Petro Janura, Remzi Nesimi, Haki Ymeri, Zihni Osmani, and others, played a crucial role in standardizing Albanian, developing educational materials, compiling dictionaries, and participating in international conferences. This paper examines the historical development of the department, the contributions of its professors, and their role in sustaining Albanian linguistic and cultural heritage. Through reviewing textbooks, dictionaries, scholarly works, and participation in academic projects, the study highlights the department's impact on Albanian language education and scholarship. The department continues to cultivate new generations of linguists and educators, ensuring the ongoing development of the Albanian language in North Macedonia
