Abstract

Migjeni is the central figure and the most powerful voice representing the period of realism in Albanian literature. Through his literary creation, Migjeni as a realist writer made known and voiced powerfully every individual he saw in his everyday life; therefore, his literary characters are immortal and unforgettable within the framework of Albanian literature. Taking motivation from the everyday life of the time, Migjeni presented it to the world of various readers (researchers) by utilizing the low (e ulëta) аs an aesthetic category. The low, which since early times in human society has occupied a visible and significant place-both in describing the actions of various characters and in the explosion of the spirit of various lyrical subjects-was not left aside in his literary output even by Migjeni, who, as will be seen in this study, presents its full nature through various characters. Among them stand out: characters who appear as beggars at a young age, unaided by the hand of others even they uttered the deepest and fullest prayers; characters who appear strong when confronted with those who feel weak and helpless, who vacated their warm place for domestic animals from which they secured their food; highland characters who bow down for a bite of bread for their children waiting at home, a bite mixed with pain and tears; as well as characters who contribute to Albania, as a country and land, appearing small on the map, a land that once, in the time of the characters’ grandfathers and great-grandfathers, had been great, filled with life and many dreams. All of these will be examined through the method of deduction and literary analysis.
