Abstract

The conceptualization of fashion elements from past eras allows fashion to present the changing status of negative ontological values in contemporary culture in a more humanly acceptable way. Contemporary fashion in its artifacts and meanings is not something negative (or unattainable), but it is something completely different, compared to the fashion of previous historical styles (even more so to classical art), which requires other approaches, criteria, ways of perception and evaluation. It is no longer relevant to talk about changing values and about the fact that their possession (or more precisely, dominion over them) replaces being. Our contemporary, the person who already lives in the XXI century, does not choose between „having or being”, but „to prove himself, to present himself, to position himself“. The growth of interest in trans-avant-garde fashion, as well as the attraction to new fashionable images and motifs in the space of existence, on the one hand, hides the danger of rendering meaningless the units of the language of culture and turning them into simulacra. On the other hand, this interest creates favorable conditions for artistic experiments with reality, man, and text, with the greatest opportunity for experiments in the field of historical fashion from the XIX century, which becomes the center of artistic and visual explication of the results of his searches in the first decade of the XXI century.
