DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION IN EDUCATION - DIGITALIZATION OF SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND REMOTE ACCESS TO EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

Abstract

The increasing use of computers and electronic platforms with educational resources is gradually necessitating a drastic change in access to scientifically correct information and in the processes of teaching and learning at all ages and educational levels/structures. The article examines aspects that seem unrelated at first glance, but in fact build the overall mechanism of this change. The content of national normative documents is commented on, in which the normative requirement for providing in electronic form of text documents with scientific content is laid down. Digitalization of scientific knowledge is also necessary through the publication of rigorous scientific content in electronic platforms and electronic lecture courses in universities. Emphasis is placed on higher visibility and the ability to cite scientific publications in electronic form, available in digital journals. But is this higher numbers of citations due to their higher scientific qualities or easier access to them electronically? The article also emphasizes the gradual reduction of the numbers of information sources printed on paper, at the expense of easier multiplication of the content by sending it in electronic form/file. Attention is paid to the changed function of libraries, in which available information resources can be found less often in one physical place, as well as when describing electronic scientific publication from electronic journals and platforms in library catalogs, if they are not submitted an included in the library list. There is a link to digital collection with rare editions and to the official website of the National Library “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” (Bulgaria). The electronic sites are also commented, in which all or part of the content of the electronic version of the educational resources (cognitive books, textbooks in various subjects) are presented, which are used in the compulsory preschool and school education and until recently were offered only in print/paper type. Emphasis is also placed on the possibilities for copyright protection and control over the unregulated distribution of scientific publications and works in electronic form. The exhibition also includes a link to the relevant Internet address of the locations of digital collections with scientific databases – various libraries and platforms used in education. Links to databases with free educational resources are also offered. If the reader follows all the links available in the article, it will turn out that he has access to a very large and varied in content volume of digitized sources with scientific knowledge and electronic resources that allow their use through remote access.
