Abstract

Children's cerebral palsy (CCP) is a disease leading to serious disability in children, which also
determines its great social significance. The disease from CP is 2.1 - 2.5 per 1,000 newborn children in Bulgaria.
The parents and society face a number of problems, leading to increased and specific health care requirements for
them. CP is a multimodal condition requiring early and polyvalent diagnostics, and complex and multistage
rehabilitation. Well-planned and proactive health care is a prerequisite for better outcomes and improved quality of
life for children with CP. Continuity between institutional care and home care is needed.
Home care has three elements: technological care, physical care (home care in a narrow sense), and nursing
(stabilization and prevention of loss of function), and contributes to stabilizing the individual’s social
participation.Family-centered care improves the well-being of children with GPs. They put both the child and his
family at the center of care. The partnership is mutually beneficial for health care providers, children, their families,
and society. Health, education, and social systems must strive to strengthen and modernize services for children with
disabilities by providing high-quality care at an affordable price, and ensuring support through an effective set of
tools to do so.
The necessary care is determined on the basis of an individual assessment of the disability.
During the period 01.11.2021 - 10.07.2022, an anonymous survey was conducted, which aims to analyze the state of
health care for children with CP in the Republic of Bulgaria and to justify the need to expand their scope through a
complex of home care. The need of children with CP and their families has been explored, and the opinion of their
parents has been sought.
The primary analysis of the received results of the survey shows unequivocally the need for this type of care.
