Mohs surgery is a modern highly specialized microsurgical method for precise, step-by-step removal of malignant skin tumors with maximum preservation of the surrounding and the underlying healthy tissue, with microscopic histological examination being performed at each stage. The surgical intervention ends when histologically confirmed access to unaffected tissue is achieved, which guarantees high efficiency and minimal risk of recurrence. The role of the nurse in Mohs-surgery is of key importance – she/he combines her clinical competence, technological preparedness and empathetic care for the patient. This report examines the modern functions of the nurse in the Mohs surgery team: preoperative preparation of the patient, preparation of the surgical field, assistance in taking staged tissue samples and their processing for transmission for analysis, as well as postoperative care and prevention of complications. Emphasis is placed on the need for a high level of competence of the nurse in dermatosurgical techniques, compliance with the rules of asepsis and antiseptics, communication skills, coordination and work in a multidisciplinary team. The report also analyzes the contemporary challenges in dermatosurgical nursing practice – shortage of specialized personnel, need for continuing education, work with innovative technologies and psychological support of patients in oncodermatological interventions. In conclusion, it is emphasized that the nurse is an indispensable part of the multidisciplinary team in Mohs surgery. Her highly professional expertise and responsible role guarantee the quality, safety and human aspect of modern dermatosurgical care.
