Abstract

Acute pancreatitis is an acute onset of self-digestion of the gland by pancreatic enzymes. Assessment of disease severity and prognosis is determined by Ranson's criteria within the first 48 hours of hospitalization in the department. The most common causes of the development of the disease are: biliary tract diseases, chronic alcohol use, surgical interventions, lipid metabolism disorders, pancreatic abnormalities, infections, etc. The aim of the study is to present the organization of health care according to the different levels of competence of the members of the nursing teams, as direct participants in the healing process, from hospitalization to the outcome of the disease. Materials and Methods. The informational basis of the study is data from a survey conducted by the author among 107 patients diagnosed with acute pancreatitis in the Department of Interventional Gastroenterology of Tokuda University Hospital for the period 05/01/2023 - 16/04/2024. Results and Discussion. Nurses on the ward carry out a diverse range of activities and play a vital role in providing holistic patient care. It encompasses the implementation of both primary and stand-alone healthcare activities that include both treatment and encouragement towards lifestyle changes and disease prevention for individuals of all ages. In the Endoscopy Section of the Gastroenterology Department, nurses assist with various procedures such as endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography, performing esophagogastroduodenoscopy, assisting with placement of percutaneous gastrostomy under endoscopic control and other diagnostic interventions. Conclusions. Health care in the field of gastroenterology has a continuous and dynamic development, which reflects the expanding professional knowledge and skills of specialists, in line with scientific innovations in this field and the needs of healthcare consumers.
