MOTIVATION IN EDUCATION AS A FACTOR FOR ACHIEVING BETTER RESULTS IN STUDENT LEARNING

Abstract

Lack of motivation among students is evident in the context of lack of discipline in schools, and thus their superficial approach to learning, spontaneity in completing school assignments, "relying on personal connections," and awareness of the parents` influence on teachers. Apparently, this lack of desire to attend school, the negative attitude towards school, and poor student performance during schooling, along with the weak results on external state graduation exams, lead to the conclusion that this phenomenon, if not addressed, may well result in the discontinuation of the student's education. The insufficient motivation of students to learn contents, particularly in their native Macedonian language, should be considered more thoroughly, in terms of: whether the teachers` approach and teaching materials are overcomplicated and discourage students from learning the subject; whether some of the rules are inapplicable, particularly regarding accentual structures that are specific to the Macedonian language; whether the literary texts used to teach specific language rules are appropriate for the certain age of students and fit the times of the new generations growing, and whether the teaching staff is adequately trained to implement the curriculum goals in the field of language. Acquisition of the country's language is fundamental for expressing properly and applying this in all subjects and lessons. Within the educational process, it is of utmost importance to organize the teaching process in a way that motivates and encourages students to achieve the desired learning outcomes.
Motivation in the educational process is a valuable factor for student achievements in lessons and learning, as well as in the work of the teaching staff, i.e., how they approach students and motivate them to develop a desire to read, write and express themselves accurately, both orally and in writing.
