Abstract

In the last decade, a worrying trend has been observed in education in Bulgaria students' interest in mathematics and natural sciences is decreasing. Fewer and fewer students in grade 12 choose to take the state matriculation exam in mathematics (under 3%). This is reflected in the application and choice of engineering and other technical specialties in universities, where mathematics education is basic. This is why the issue of individualization and differentiation of mathematics education is particularly relevant. The problems of individualization and differentiation of education, especially in mathematics education, have become increasingly important in recent decades, even though they are not new to didactics. This paper aims to provide a concise overview of differentiation and individualization and their application in mathematics education. It also presents examples of individualization and differentiation in mathematics education, the role of the student and the role of the teacher in individualized education, along with strategies for implementing differentiation in mathematics teaching
