HYPERCHOLESTEROLEMIA IN PATIENTS WITH CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE: ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT BEFORE AND AFTER INVASIVE DIAGNOSTICS

Hyperlipidemia, or high blood cholesterol levels, is a significant risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD) and is often treated in patients with CAD in the coronary care unit. Management focuses on lowering LDL cholesterol through lipid-lowering drugs, especially high-dose statins and especially the combination of statins with ezetimibe, which have been shown to reduce cardiovascular events and mortality.
Aim: The aim of this paper is to present the management of hypercholesterolemia in patients with CAD referred for coronary angiography hospitalized at the PHI Clinical Hospital Stip. Also, to present the nursing care of patients with CAD.
Materials and methods: The study was conducted at the PHI Clinical Hospital Stip. The study included patients hospitalized with a diagnosis of CAD, biochemical analyses for lipid profile were taken. Lipid profile values were monitored from the day of admission and at follow-up with a new lipid profile three and six months after the intervention. The data obtained were systematized and presented graphically.
Results and discussion: The results showed that the selected patients have untreated hypercholesterolemia as a significant risk factor for the occurrence of CAD. Also, as time passes since the acute event, patients either relax with their lifestyle or do not adhere to the prescribed therapy. From the nurses' point of view, mutual trust between the nurse, the patient and the patient's loved ones is key to promoting and maintaining continuity of care in patients with myocardial infarction, with regular receipt of the prescribed therapy and regular follow-up examinations.
Conclusion: From the presented data, it is necessary to make a continuous effort for screening and effective management of hypercholesterolemia in patients with coronary artery disease.
